Whether paddling down the meandering gorge of the Oak Orchard River or navigating the calm waters of the grand Erie Canal, you’ll find good times around every bend. Our canal port villages of Albion, Holley and Medina offer docking right along side the downtown historic districts and within an easy walk to restaurants, shops and museums. If sailing is your passion, the Lake Ontario shoreline and our sheltered Oak Orchard Harbor shouldn’t be missed for a moonlit cruise.

Oak Orchard River & Point Breeze
Oak Orchard Yacht Racing is comprised of a small but dedicated group of sailors that races on Lake Ontario’s south shore at Point Breeze and Oak Orchard on the Lake. In the late 1930’s a small group of sailors created the Oak Orchard Yacht Club to foster the sport.

15.8 acres of land in the town of Carlton bounded on the west by the Oak Orchard River including an island, on the north by the state-owned access trail from Park Avenue Extension, on the south by the NYSDEC parking lot and Brookfield Power Company lands including about 800 feet of the peninsula. This land is leased by Orleans County for the express purpose of allowing the general public to engage in the outdoor recreational activities of fishing and boating.

The flash of silver welcoming visitors by boat or by land is the dome of the 1858 County Courthouse. A true port village, Albion was the site of sandstone quarrying and fruit export on the canal, bringing prosperity to the area. Today, Canalside Park offers boat docking facilities and a landscaped park for watching the lift bridge operations. Amenities include water, electric service and comfort station with showers.

Settled in 1812, the village was named in honor or Major Myron Holley, canal commissioner from 1816-1824. Glenwood Lake

Glenwood Lake was formed by damming Oak Orchard River. The river flows north, passing under the Erie Canal then tumbles down a waterfall (Medina Falls) before slowing its course in Glenwood Lake. Paddle south from the launch site to see Medina Falls. The dam is at the northern end, near the launch adjacent to Boxwood Cemetary on North Gravel Road, Medina.

Lake Alice Waterway

Built around 1920, Lake Alice was formed by damming Oak Orchard River and creating a long narrow lake. Recreation includes fishing, boating and camping. A public boat launch is located at the intersection of Waterport and Oak Orchard River Roads.

Oak Orchard Harbor offers a pleasant destination for day launch for the cruising sailor, powerboater or sea kayaker. The tree-lined gorge, carved by the Oak Orchard River, provides a scenic backdrop for a full service port featuring a professional charter fleet, sailing clubs, parks, marine sales and repairs, gasoline, pump out stations, lodging and restaurants. The harbor is protected by two parallel jetties and a breakwall at the mouth of the river. Dredged channel depth is about 8 feet and varies upstream to about 18 feet.
